A Vexing Vector
(posted May 12, 2001) I'm hoping to publish some theoretical info on kite pull on my web site (www.thefoolonthehill.co.uk). I've based some of the discussion on info from your web site, specifically the vector analysis in the 'how much will your kite lift' section. I have, of course, put a link in to the KAPER site. The web page can be found at: www.thefoolonthehill.co.uk/kitelift.html What I'm asking is do you mind me using your vector analysis on my site? I don't want to tread on your toes! Thanks,
Pete Gostelow [Ed.- As long as you make the proper references to your sources I have absolutely no problem. Good luck on your project. ]
Multi-Flare Plans.
I have a rig that I built, but haven't used yet. As soon as I do I'll E-you some pic's to post on the web-site. The camera I have for KAP is a fully auto Pentax IQ ZOOM. I can set it to take photos at almost any interval. The reason I'm writing you is that I noticed on your site that in the Multi-Flare kite section, you say that plans are not available. The plan for this kite appears in David Pelham's, "Penguin Book of Kites", on page 206. Just FYI you have a great site. I enjoy it very much. I live in Denver, CO and the wind here is very touchy to say the least. Most days there is either too much or not enough to get my rig up. Have a great day,
Dano Martinez
[Ed.- Thanks for the source for plans for the Multi-Flare. There are also plans for a regular Flare in the Aerial Eye 4:2 that could easily be converted to a Multi-Flare Design.]
Many Flares do not make a Multi-Flare
The Multiflare is not simply a wider Flare. The lather is a two spreader kite, while the Multi does it with only one spreader. (See Pelham pages 206 and 207, if you have that book). A complete and detailed plan of the Multi (circa 4 m2, KAP-size) is in a German book by Wolfgang Schimmelpfennig called "Drachen bauen und steigen lassen" (Building kites and let them fly). This is an earlier book then the one with "stunt kites" in the title by the same author as sold by KiteLines and others. The book I'm talking about was published in 1987 in Germany by Falken-verlag. I know of a translation in French and even in Dutch (the one I have). It seems they have forgotten to do the English. Anyway I've the impression the book is unavailable in any language at the moment. The Multiflare is Wolfgang Bieck's favorite KAP kite. It's pulling hard, so good for his 2kg rig. But it's not my cup of tee as they say in the UK. It needs a tail and at FLiBB2000 it was beaten by Ralf's and my Dopero as the wind dropped. Even Craig's Delta came down earlier. But if you think that there is a need to have a detailed Multiflare plan on the web and at a moment I don't know what to do I will put it on. Cheers

The Bane of Banner Ads
(posted May 12, 2001) I have not visited your web page in quite a few months.
I like the design and information. But I must tell you that I will seldom be back because of the overwhelming number of advertisements from your ISP. I get three big adds every time I press a key. I wonder if the advertisers know that many of us make a mental note about what product or service *not* to
buy because of their methods?
Just FYI.
Very best regards,
[
Ed.- Banner ads are the necessary evil of free web hosting but the banner ads at
fortunecity can easily be non intrusive. I have found that if I DO NOT
click the ad off, but instead click somewhere on the KAPER web
page to make it the top window on the screen, then I will never have the
ad pop up on top of the page I am trying to view, even if I load a new
page. If, however, you click the banner off, then every new page you load on the KAPER site will cause a new banner to pop up on top of the browser window.]
Weighty Matters
Just finished my first Rig and was wondering, How it compared weight wise. Thanks for the great resource. I am able to compare mine with rigs that
utilize the same camera...

A Day In The Life...
You have done an absolutely marvelous job on the KAPER web site. Thanks for featuring my photos. Just for your interest I have a series of photos that illustrate
a typical day getting some KAP photos. [Ed.- Sorry to say but Bob Brown no longer seems to have a web page. (2005)]

A Fall Guy
The new photos , especially the peat bog, are really excellent! I
truly admire those with such talent!

Taking A Fall
Thanks for featuring my Estonian bog picture (and link) on your web page. Your image is also quite nice. It's difficult to acquire KAP of good fall forest color.
Jim Aber
[Ed.- I have to agree that getting pictures of fall foliage is difficult.
I have been trying for the last three years to get a picture of the fall foliage in my area. The window of opportunity is very short, about a week and a half. In the past the wind, the rain, and my schedule have conspired to keep my KAP rig grounded during this time.]
parlez-vous Français
Your site is really great, I will add a link in my site.
I have the project to do an English version of my site. I will try to do the job this winter. I'll send you a mail when this will be done.

KAP to the Rescue
What a super-duper KAP website! It almost makes me think KAP can save the flagging kite industry. (We just lost one of the last two kite stores in the state that weren't at the beach.) Surely the mix of low and high tech would appeal to a broader audience than just kite flying.
Anyhow, I now have my own KAP stuff on a website here:
Thanks!
