FROM THE EDITOR:

May 18, 2000
Spring is winding down and I'm sure many of you have had many opportunities to get outdoors and get your rigs into the wind during the these breezy spring days. Be sure to send a sampling of what you've been up to for the KAPER Gallery page.

I will have some extra time during the next few months. This should allow me to finish the experimenting needed to complete the "How To KAP For Under $20" article. Ryan Young recently sent some info about a silly putty dethermalizer that looks very promising for use as a time delay for the shutter release.

Everyone seems to be cost conscious lately. Gary Vigue, who had never been to the KAPER site, emailed me because of a post on Cris Benton's discussion page. From some previous postings he surmised that I had an interest in "Cheap KAP".

(Maybe we should give this an acronym, CHAP. Then again maybe not)

Check out Gary's article "Under $10 KAP Solution". Gary uses an inexpensive child's kite, a disposable camera, and a ice shutter timer.

Other projects that I intend to work on this summer include:

  • More Kite Pull measurements
  • Video assisted KAP
  • Windless KAP techniques
  • A searchable index to the personal KAP sites found on the LINKS page

Before departing let me remind you again about FLiBB 2000 at Bad Bevensen, Germany,
July 31 - August 6, 2000. This week long international gathering of KAPers should have something for KAPers at every level of expertise. Make your plans early because the attendance is limited to 25. Look under Articles to find more information about this event.
